In 1994, Gobblefest was started as a one-day live music fundraiser event to support the efforts of Caper Radio CJBU (previously known as CAPR), Cape Breton University's campus and community non-profit radio station. With a large slew of local alternative rockers, punks, and metal-heads alike, Gobblefest quickly became a local phenomenon over night.
Today, Gobblefest happens annually every Thanksgiving weekend in downtown Sydney with an impressive roster of local bands from many different musical genres. |
From the Beginning... |
...Where We Are Now |
Before the turn of the millennia, Gobblefest expanded from a one-day event into a three-day festival. Considered a staple in the local music scene for many, Gobblefest was even documented by sources such as the Canadian music television program, Much Music and select news outlets during the latter half of the 1990s. Was the Seattle music boom to blame? Maybe.

To date, Gobblefest has shared the stage with hundreds of bands and artists from the Cape Breton region, mainland Nova Scotia, and the Maritimes, and has held festival shows in dozens of local venues come and gone. For nearly 25 years, Gobblefest has been the first introduction for many local musicians and artists into the music scene of Sydney.
